Ways you can celebrate Queensland’s 150th birthday

There are lots of ways you can get involved in Queensland’s 150th Celebrations. Here are some ideas to get you started.

At work or school

  • Plan a staff event with a Queensland focus - dress in the famous Queensland singlet and thongs or cook a barbeque
  • Find old photos of your office and display them in your school room or workplace, along with iconic Queensland photographs
  • Plant or sponsor a native tree
  • Host a trivia night with a Queensland theme
  • Organise an outing to one of the Q150 celebrations/exhibits being held in your local community
  • Have geography competitions - how well do you know Queensland?
  • Host a cook-off with a Queensland menu

In your business

  • Place historical books or Q150 booklets in the waiting area lobby for customers to read
  • Engrave champagne flutes or beer mugs with a Q150 message and give to sponsors, VIPs, clients or colleagues
  • Add a sentence to your email signature acknowledging the Q150 celebration
  • If you produce a Queensland product, acknowledge the celebrations on your packaging

In your local community or neighbourhood

  • Apply for a grant for, or auspice, a community funded project
  • Organise a fundraiser for a local charity (e.g. have a community quilting bee and create a quilt with a Queensland theme to auction for charity)
  • Host a community parade with a Queensland historic feel
  • Organise a community fair that celebrates Q150 and showcases your local produce, lifestyle and art
  • Host a community film festival with films from the past and present
  • Organise a time capsule where locals can put in significant items and open in 20 to 50 years time
  • Create a wall mural for a school or local park
